Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch has asked a question which a lot of us haven't probably considered:
Will the Writer's Strike have an effect on the upcoming Comic-Con?
It's a good question after the cancellation of this weekend's Golden Globes. With writers and actors in sync, the possibilities of Comic-Con becoming a very dull deal for movie-buffs is a very real possibility.
Now, let's just think about this for a moment. First, you might be asking, isn't Comic-Con about comics? Well, true. That's where Comic-con gets its roots. However, for the last ever-how-many years (it's a number, look it up), Hollywood has been using Comic-Con to push their big budget films. No star is too big for Comic-Con. In the past such films as Superman Returns, Lord of the Rings, the entire Spider-Man franchise and 300 have brought out stars and writers to speak with the fans about their wares.
However, with the strike in effect, if something isn't accomplished very soon, no negotiations will be made with stars to appear (as well as writers) and that's going to make a very big dent in what has been lovingly referred to as "Geek Prom."
